Platres: Caledonian Falls - Troodos 17 KM Circular
Project type
Hiking
Date
13th March 2024
Start Location: Platres, Cyprus
Route map
There are various routes starting from Platres Trout Farm. That start with the Caledonian Falls Trail.
The Trail is up hill and follows the river for the first 3KM. It is like a goat track and there are boulders and rocks in the floor.
It passes the Waterfall and there are a number of sections which have steps you have to walk up. Some of these are logs set in the ground and some are concrete. The largest set of stairs has 118 steps in it and has a place to take a breather should you need it.
At the top of the Falls trail we turned right on to a wide track, Troodos was signposted further up this track after a few KM's. After turning left we passed the old army camp and turned right in front of the church, we then started walking up the road towards Troodos
Just before we got to Troodos the route took us off and down to the right on a narrow goat track. This trail passed through some great woodland before joining a large track again, where we turned right and followed the trail till we reached an intersection and turned left and then left again down a wide track. This track was steep in places and had a loose surface so we had to take care descending. Further on the track narrowed again, and eventually came out to a viewing point on the mountain side. One of my favourite places, 180 degree views of the coastline in the distance and the salt lake at Limassol. The route continued winding back to the start through woodland on narrow tracks.
