Kannaviou Dam - Helipad 11.5KM Circular

Project type

Hiking

Date

22nd October 2022

Location

Kannaviou Reservoir, Cyprus

Route Map

Start Location

You do not turn right at the dam turning, it's the one after as you are coming up the hill. It has a brown sign, sign posted Agia.

There is a recess in the track overlooking the dam. You can get 6 or 7 cars parked if planned properly.

It was an easy wide track till we got to the end of the reservoir. There was a short steep section, the rest was a gradual increase in elevation. The turn inland wasn't obvious, there was a no entry sign on the right by the track and it was a little overgrown. Further up this track were some earth mounds and it looked like a dead end. We walked to the right of the mounds and kept going. At the top of this section the route broke out onto a big wide track. To the right was a smaller track which we followed down to a riverbed. (Again it was not obvious) We crossed the riverbed, then swung right and started the climb. At the top there is a metalled road leading off to Asprogia. Again we turned right on to a large dirt track and followed it for about a KM. We then came to an intersection. Straight ahead there was a steep climb on a wide track. This track bent to the right at the top and then onto the open summit where the Helipad is located.
Continuing on past the helipad, and after around 500m, we followed a track heading down to our left. We followed this track till we came to a fenced off olive grove. The next intersection was a little tricky. We went straight ahead, it didn't look like a track but we persevered and over a slight incline picked up the track again. This track finally joined the track we started on down by the reservoir.
It is worth noting that the down hill section from the Helipad was tricky, it's quite steep in places and had loose gravel underfoot.
